Riftbound: Vendetta – Everything You Need to Know About Set 4

Riftbound: Vendetta – Everything You Need to Know About Set 4

The wait is almost over. Riftbound: Vendetta, the fourth expansion for Riot's League of Legends Trading Card Game, launches July 31, 2026, bringing new mechanics, iconic rivalries, and some of the most innovative gameplay the game has seen so far.

Whether you're a competitive player looking for the next meta-defining strategy or a collector chasing stunning new cards, Vendetta has something to be excited about.

A Set Built on Rivalries

Vendetta centers around one of League of Legends' biggest themes: rivalry.

From lifelong enemies to former allies turned adversaries, this expansion showcases legendary matchups including:

  • Zed vs. Shen
  • Nasus vs. Renekton
  • Vi vs. Jinx
  • Jayce vs. Viktor
  • Mel vs. Ambessa

Rather than simply introducing new champions, Vendetta explores the conflicts that define them, giving each archetype its own identity and playstyle.

New Mechanics Coming to Vendetta

🔥 Burn

Burn is one of Vendetta's signature mechanics.

When a card tells you to Burn X, you take X cards from the top of your Main Deck and put them into your trash. While this brings you closer to running out of cards, it also fills your trash with resources that other cards can take advantage of.

Some effects burn your own deck to set up powerful synergies, while others burn your opponent's deck to disrupt their game plan. Cards can even trigger when they're burned or reward you for burning multiple cards in a turn, making Burn both a risk and a powerful engine for value.

🌊 Flow

Flow gives cards a second life.

Cards with Flow can be played from your trash by paying their Flow cost instead of playing them from your hand. After they're played this way, they're banished, preventing them from being reused indefinitely.

Flow encourages players to view the trash as an extension of their hand, creating exciting decisions about what to discard, burn, or recycle during a game. It also pairs naturally with Burn, allowing cards that reach the trash to become valuable resources later.

💪 Empower

Empower allows cards to grow stronger over time.

Cards with Empower have an activated ability that lets you pay a cost to make them Empowered. Once empowered, they gain additional abilities or stronger effects printed directly on the card.

Instead of getting all of a card's power immediately, Empower lets you invest in it over multiple turns, rewarding careful planning and resource management.

⚔️ Unit-Gear

Vendetta introduces an entirely new hybrid card type: Unit-Gear.

As the name suggests, these cards count as both a Unit and a Gear, meaning they interact with cards that support either type. This opens the door to creative deckbuilding and combinations that weren't possible in previous sets.

📜 Decrees

Vendetta also introduces Decrees.

Decrees aren't a brand-new spell type but rather a special cycle of spells built around Domain rivalries. Each Domain receives a Decree designed to punish cards from its opposing Domain, giving players powerful sideboard and matchup-specific tools.

Standout Cards Revealed So Far

 Zed, From the Shadows

One of the biggest reveals of preview season is Zed, From the Shadows.

When you play Zed, you may discard an additional card. If you do, Zed summons a Shadow Clone token alongside him, immediately giving players extra board presence while also helping stock the trash for Vendetta's new mechanics.

👤 Shadow Clone

At first glance, Shadow Clone looks harmless with 0 Might.

However, whenever it attacks, you can banish a Unit from your trash to give it Assault 4, instantly transforming it into a legitimate offensive threat. It's a perfect example of how Vendetta rewards using your trash as a resource rather than treating it like a discard pile.

How the New Mechanics Work Together

One of the most exciting aspects of Vendetta is how its mechanics naturally complement one another.

You can Burn cards from your deck into your trash, then use Flow to replay spells directly from that trash. Meanwhile, Empower lets your units become stronger over time, while Unit-Gear introduces flexible deckbuilding options that blend two card types into one.

Instead of existing in isolation, these mechanics create a gameplay loop where nearly every card can continue providing value long after it first leaves your hand.

Final Thoughts

Vendetta looks like one of Riftbound's most ambitious expansions yet.

Rather than simply introducing stronger cards, Riot has created mechanics that reward planning ahead, managing your trash as a resource, and finding creative ways to generate value throughout a game.

Between Burn, Flow, Empower, Unit-Gear, and Decrees—not to mention exciting champion rivalries like Zed vs. Shen and Nasus vs. Renekton—Vendetta is shaping up to leave a lasting impact on both competitive play and collecting.

As more previews arrive before release, we'll continue breaking down the newest cards, discussing potential deck archetypes, and tracking which cards could become the biggest winners once Vendetta officially hits store shelves.
